How to Buy a Licensed Gun in India
Buying a licensed revolver, rifle or shotgun in India: eligibility, documents, police verification and realistic timelines under the Arms Act, 1959.
Owning a real firearm in India is a privilege granted through a strict process. Here is how it works and how we fit in.
Step 1 — Check eligibility
You must be an Indian citizen, 21 or older, of sound mind with no criminal record, and show a genuine reason: sport shooting, crop protection or self-defence. Applications go to your district licensing authority, usually via the NDAL portal or the collector's office.
Step 2 — Documents & verification
- Identity and address proof, plus photographs
- Proof of genuine reason (club membership, land records, threat perception)
- Medical fitness certificate
- Police verification and background check
Step 3 — Wait, then buy
Timelines run from a few months to over a year depending on the state. Once the license booklet is issued with your approved bore, you may purchase — for example a .45 ACP pistol or a .380 ACP pistol from our licensed range. The purchase is entered on your license; ammunition quotas apply.
Why we do not publish licensed gun prices
Indian law requires licensed firearms to be sold privately against a verified license, so we do not display prices for them on this website. Stock, model and price are shared directly on WhatsApp after we verify your license. Airguns and other non-licensed items show prices openly — see our fair pricing guide.
How IndianGuns helps
We do not sell firearms online. On WhatsApp we confirm the exact model, price and paperwork, verify your license, and complete the transfer as per the Arms Act. No license, no sale — no exceptions.
Not sure which caliber you are licensed for? Our caliber guide explains the common bores, and the maker directory shows who makes what.
